Introduction
AniScr
AniScr 1.1 is a screen saver for Windows 3.1. AniScr
displays a selected Animator Flic and plays a selected
wave sound file after no keyboard or mouse activity
occurs for a specified amount of time. AniScr can be
set to play the wave file once or to repeated play the
wave file after a specified duration has elapsed.
As with most (all?) screen savers, AniScr serves no
real purpose but to entertain. AniScr can play any flic
file (.FLI or .FLC) and any wave file (.WAV) you
desire. Hundreds are available on computer Bulletin
Board Services (BBSs) and through on-line services like
America Online and Compuserve. You can create your own
Animator Flics using Autodesk's Multimedia Explorer or
Animator Pro programs as well as with many other
programs from other companies. You can record your own
wave files with the proper hardware and software.

Installation
Installing the Animation Player for Windows
AniScr requires the Autodesk Animation Player for
. The Animation Player for Windows is a freely Windows
available program and is included with AniScr in an
archive file called AAWIN.ZIP.
To install the Animation Player, format a 720K or
larger floppy disk in drive A: and unpack all of the
files from AAWIN.ZIP onto the floppy disk by using the
following command:
PKUNZIP -d aawin A:
.EXE is a product of PKWare PKUNZIP and is not included
with AniScr.
The "-d" option causes PKUNZIP to reproduce the
directory structure on the floppy. After executing the
above command, the floppy should contain the following
files:
\3AAPLAY1.DID
\AAPLAY.DLL
\AASETUP.EXE
\AAVGA.DLL
\INSTALL.EX$
\INSTALL.INS
\MCIAAP.DRV
\OEMSETUP.INF
\AAWIN\AAPLAY.H
\AAWIN\AAPLAY.LIB
\AAWIN\AAPLDEV.DOC
\AAWIN\AAWIN.EXE
\AAWIN\AAWIN.HLP
\AAWIN\AAWIN.ICO
Leave the floppy in A: and select the Run Option of the
File Menu from Windows Program Manager. Type
"A:AASETUP" in the Command Line field then press Return
or OK. Follow the on-screen directions.
Save the floppy disk as a backup of the program.

Installing AniScr
Copy the file ANISCR.SCR to your Windows directory.
Configuring AniScr
In Window's Program Manager, select the Main group.
Execute the Control Panel application then double-click
on the Desktop icon. Look for the "Screen Saver"
section in the dialog box that appears. Click on the
little arrow at the end of the "Name" field then select
"Play Animation File" from the screen savers listed.
Enter the number of minutes that the keyboard and mouse
must be inactive before the animation file plays by
typing the number of minutes into the "Delay" field.
Now, click on the "Setup" button.
The AniScr configuration dialog box will be displayed.
Click in the "Animator File" field to move the cursor
to it and enter the path and filename of the desired
Animator Flic, or press the "Browse Flics" button and
select a Flic using the familiar file selection dialog.
Select a wave (sound) file by entering its path and
filename in the Wave File field, or press the "Browse
" button and select a wave file using the file Waves
selection dialog. If you do not wish to have a sound
file play, clear the Wave File field by double clicking
in the field then pressing the space bar.
If you wish the screen to clear when AniScr is
activated, click the square labeled "Blank Screen."
If have a VGA display and wish to animation to be
displayed using the full-screen, click the square
labeled "Full Screen." Note: normally a screensaver
will unload when a key is pressed or the mouse is
moved. In Full-Screen mode, however, AniScr will not
unload when the mouse is moved. You must press a key
to stop the screensaver.
If you'd like the wave file to replay at some interval,
click the square labeled "Repeat" and type the number
of seconds to wait between plays in the "Repeat
Interval" field. If you enter a repeat interval shorter
than the length of the wave file, you'll create a Max
Headroom kind of effect as the wave file starts playing
again before it has finished.
8
Press the "OK" button to exit the AniScr configuration
dialog box then press the "OK" button to exit the
Desktop dialog box.
9
Using Control Panel to Select the Sound File

Sound icon to select the wave file to play.
The Control Panel contains an icon for setting up
system event sounds. Click on the earcon and a dialog
box pops up listing the events and the sound files
associated with the events. The "Asterisk" event is
listed somewhere near the top.
Scroll through the "Events" list and you'll find the
"AniScr Sound" event. Click once on the "AniScr Sound"
event then select a wave file from the "Files" list.
Click on the "Help" button or press F1 for help.
The file you select will be used by AniScr and will
appear in the AniScr configuration dialog box if you
press the "Setup" button in the Desktop dialog box.
